Simulated Game

Simulated game shooting at Hopton Court Estate in Shropshire offers a realistic and enjoyable alternative to a traditional driven shoot. Located within easy reach of Birmingham and the West Midlands, our days are designed to replicate the pace, variety and excitement of a real shoot using clay targets.

Our simulated game days were first established in May 2012 and have grown from strength to strength over the years, with continual improvements made to the shooting ground and drives.

Simulated game is clay pigeon shooting designed to replicate the experience of a traditional game shoot. Guns move through a series of drives where multiple traps launch clays at a variety of speeds and angles, simulating the flight of pheasant, partridge and other game birds. Each drive typically involves around 1,000 clays, creating an exciting and challenging experience that closely mirrors a real shoot day.

Simulated days are great fun, highly sociable and often benefit from the warmer weather of the spring and early summer months. They are ideal for game shooting syndicates wanting to keep their eye in during the off-season, as well as for corporate groups, birthdays, celebrations and groups of friends looking for an enjoyable day in the countryside.

They can also be a wonderful way of introducing the younger generation or newcomers to shooting, allowing them to experience the format and atmosphere of a shoot day in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Friends and family are always welcome to attend as social guests, enjoying the day and the countryside even if they are not shooting themselves.

The length of the day and number of drives can be tailored to suit your group, and we typically cater for teams of between 14 and 20 guns. Prices generally range from £220 to £290 per gun (including VAT) depending on the format of the day. From time to time we also offer individual places where guns can join an existing team.

Our simulated game days take place at Hopton Court Estate in South Shropshire, within easy travelling distance of Birmingham and the West Midlands.

What to Expect on a Simulated Game Day

A simulated game day follows a format similar to a traditional shoot day, with guns moving between a number of different drives across the estate, centred around our Gun Room at Heath Hills.

At each drive a series of traps launch clay targets designed to simulate the flight of game birds, creating a variety of challenging targets. Some drives replicate high pheasants over valleys or woodland, while others simulate fast partridges or crossing birds.

There are 2 people (guns) to a peg and they take turns to shoot or load. Peg positions rotate between drives, allowing everyone to experience the different targets throughout the day. Between drives there is plenty of opportunity to relax, enjoy refreshments and socialise with the rest of the group.

Simulated game days are known for their fun, relaxed and sociable atmosphere, often helped by the warmer weather of the spring and early summer months.

Cartridges

Cartridges are not included in the price but are available to buy on the day or you can bring your own. We recommend 250 cartridges per gun on half days and 400 on full days. 21 gram 8's are ample.

Safety

It is recommended that you wear a hat and long sleeve clothing to protect against broken and falling clays. It is also recommended that you use hearing protection and safety glasses. These are available free of charge on the day.
